Old school glamour

I would love to go back in time to when fashion and celebrities were so glamorous and alluring.
Nowadays we are bombarded by the likes of Paris Hilton and Kristen Stewart and it's all fake hair, over the top make up.
These lovely ladies are stylish and beautiful and they don't even need to try.

Movie inspired engagement shoots

I had my engagement shoot at a delightfully chic cafe in Durbanville called Cafe Chocolat which, by the way, serves the best chocolate cake in existence. We were a bit rushed as we wanted to fit it in before the wedding, we hadn't left much time, and so we utilized the french and vintage style decor but, had we had more time to plan, I would have loved to have done a movie themed shoot as Mr H and I are big film fans, but you can never say never (damn Justin Bieber). Here are a few movie themed engagement shoots that have caught my eye.

Devon Valley Art Expo with Nico Van Rensburg

Last night I enjoyed a delightful culturally filling evening at Devon Valley Hotel with the opening of Nico van Rensburg art collection who happens to be one of South Africa’s best-known artists. I found out later on that evening that his works can be seen in the art collections of many municipalities, universities and corporations and he is widely recognized as a key-note speaker on art and its innovations.
His collection is to be at the hotel until the 31st August and the opening lats night was glorious. I arrived to glass of Sylvanvale Rosé which was divine and I am not a Rosé girl at all. I was then offered canapés that literally cuddled my tummy. Devon Valley's Bobotie truffles are amazing. I couldn't keep away from them. Then there were brie and cranberry sauce filo wraps and tempura prawns paired with a delicious Pinotage. Let me not forget the mini cheesecakes, spoonfuls of creme brulee and chocolate covered strawberries.
You may be wondering whether I actually managed to look at any of the art....with a glass in one hand and my camera in the other I took pictures of the ones that stood out the most for me. Notice how he uses a lot of reds and oranges, a very masculine and bold colour which adds a warming factor in this cold.
All in all, it was a wonderful evening and I enjoyed every evening.

Designing competition!

You are invited...

Wedding invitations are lovely but they can also be a pain in the behind. Everyone wants to incorporate something of themselves in the design and we're also mindful that the invitation sets the theme of the wedding. It will be the first hint for your guests as to what they can expect from the wedding.
Hubby and I wanted something simple and although we would have loved an over-the-top design, we wanted to spend more money on other things. However, it still didn't stop me from looking at the designs and http://ohsobeautifulpaper.com has some of the most beautiful designs ever.

Are you the next big designer?

Friday's styling

This has been the longest week EVER. The weather, being so lovely, has made staying inside in the office a total nightmare. How beautiful has it been! Almost as though it was Spring already.
In homage to this weather, my Friday outfit is playing up to the sunshine.

Things I do that I’m not proud of

  1. I eat peanut butter and jam together straight from the jar
  2. I always cheat at Sudoku and yet act really pleased when I finish it
  3. I judge people by what they wear
  4. I love trashy television even though I hate those who watch it and those who participate in it, for instance Kendra (yuck)
  5. I give my Husband the smallest cookie and get cross when he wants more
  6. I leave half-drunk mugs of green tea around the flat and always forget to put my tea bags in the bin
  7. I spend 40mins on average in the shower just standing there willing myself to get out
  8. I allow myself to be overcome by road rage
  9. I leave the electric blanket on even though my Husband hates it and it makes him all sweaty
  10. I compare myself to a Super Hero (actually, that is pretty awesome)

If the shoe fits

You might say that lately I have been having a bit of a shoe fetish but that is only because these babies are so freakin beautiful. How can you resist. I'm loving the bows and that stunning shade of yellow (artsy peope will probably have a name for it).

Weird and wonderful Shoes

Time for a bit of something strange but seductive. Heels have increasingly become more and more adventurous and rather unsturdy looking. If i'm being honest, i'm a flip flops and converse girl, I live in them. Heels make me feel like a teetering giant and I worry that I shall fall on my ass at some point and die of shame (and the fall). But that doesn't stop me from looking at shoes and wishing in my teeny tiny head voice that I was capable of strutting in 6inch killer heels for hours without breaking a sweat or clinging onto my Hubby for dear life. I think the following may break a few ankles, some are rather extreme yet some are also totally divine.

Marc Jacobs
Haus of Price
Valentino

Jimmy Choo

Alexander McQueen

Fendi

Chanel

Harry Potter fashions

So i'm not really a big fan of Harry Potter....okay, I LOVED the books. Couldn't put those bad boys down but I find Daniel Radcliffe to be severely creepy. However, I work with someone who is a fanatic and somehow, her hysteria has rubbed off on me to the point of me wanting to go and see the final installment (even though I didn't see part 1). I mainly want to see it for Alan Rickman who I adore with a passion and also to see how grown up all the child actors are (have you seen the guy who plays Neville?).
But that wasn't want I wanted to ramble on about, no, i'm more intrigued by the Potter inspired look-boards that are popping up everywhere and I found one that i'm rather taken with.
Now the question remains, which character will you be?

You've been framed

I love the idea of filling up boring walls with pictures and paintings. These beautiful design ideas have brought out the D.I.Y demon within me and I shall try and attempt them...in the near, distant future...

1) Is a lovely idea to show off cards as well as photos and would be relatively easy to do
2) I would love to find a frame like that for my wedding pics
3) Another easy looking masterpiece. Love the B&W pics too
4) Love the brightness and how it resembles a quilt.
